    Infrared-Improved Soft-wall AdS/QCD Model for Mesons

We construct and investigate an infrared-improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model for mesons. Both linear confinement and chiral symmetry breaking of low energy QCD are well characterized in such an infrared-improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model. The model enables us to obtain a more consistent numerical prediction for the mass spectra of resonance scalar, pseudoscalar, vector and axial-vector mesons. In particular, the predicted mass for the lightest ground state scalar meson shows a good agreement with the experimental data. The model also provides a remarkable check for the Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner relation and a sensible result for the space-like pion form factor.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures, 7 tables, published versio

Delayed Onset and Fast Rise of Prompt Optical-UV Emission from Gamma-Ray Bursts in Molecular Clouds

Observations imply that long \gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are originated from explosions of massive stars, therefore they may occur in the molecular clouds where their progenitors were born. We show here that the prompt optical-UV emission from GRBs may be delayed due to the dust extinction, which can well explain the observed optical delayed onset and fast rise in GRB 080319B. The density and the size of the molecular cloud around GRB 080319B are roughly constrained to be \sim10^3cm^{-3} and \sim 8pc, respectively. We also investigate the other GRBs with prompt optical-UV data, and find similar values of the densities and sizes of the local molecular clouds. The future observations of prompt optical-UV emission from GRBs in subsecond timescale, e.g., by UFFO-Pathfinder and SVOM-GWAC, will provide more evidence and probes of the local GRB environments.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures, RAA 13 (2013) 57-70, typo correctio

Sheep: A lifestyle platform providing access to freshest greens for metropolitan areas through vertical farming system

    Get PDF
With today’s food supply chain, consumers who live in metropolitan areas can not be able to get the freshest greens they want everyday. Main reason is the long transportation between urban city and traditional farms. Based on the research, l found that a new agriculture technology named vertical farming can solve these problems. Because of the main feature of this technique is efficient use of urban space, it can solved the scarcity of land problem. Secondly, the shorter growth cycle can meets the high demand of fresh greens in urban cities. Thirdly, vertical farming can cultivate vegetables which is free of pesticides and contains more nutrients and better taste, this can enhance people’s life quality. So l combined this technology and mobile devices to build a platform which can provide a new access to the freshest greens to people who live in metropolitan areas. The goal of this project is to create a new life style based on the support of vertical farming and experimental constructions in the heart of urban cities. From the design perspective, l focus on the efficient user experience and creative user interfaces
